THE SACRAMENTS

Baptism

In the sacrament of Baptism, we celebrate God's love and grace as we welcome new members into our faith community. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we are cleansed, renewed, and empowered to live a life of love and service. Whether you're an adult or a child, we invite you to experience the joy of Baptism and embark on a lifelong journey of faith.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacred moment when we affirm our faith and commitment to God. As we pray, learn, and grow together, we prepare to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, deepening our understanding and connection with God. Join us as we celebrate this important milestone on your spiritual journey.

Weddings

At Leeds Episcopal Church, we believe that marriage is a sacred union between two people, blessed by God. Our beautiful sanctuary and compassionate community provide a warm and welcoming space for your special day. We're honored to support you as you begin your life together, and we look forward to celebrating with you.

Funerals

In times of sorrow and loss, we turn to God for comfort and strength. Our funeral services offer a compassionate and meaningful way to honor loved ones, and celebrate their life and legacy. We also offer Planned Giving and endowment opportunities, allowing you to create a lasting tribute and support the church's mission. May we walk with you through this difficult time.

  • Service to Others

At Leeds Episcopal Church, we believe that every member is called to ministry. We encourage and empower each other to use our gifts, talents, and passions to serve God and our community. Whether through outreach, worship, or fellowship, we invite you to join us in living out our faith and making a difference in the world.

  • Altar Guild

This group is composed of those persons who prepare the church for worship. They arrange the altar and sanctuary for the Holy Eucharist or another order of worship. They also care for vessels, linens, hangings, and flowers. Karen McKnew and Sally Shoemaker are the co-chairs of the Altar Guild.

  • Chalice Bearers

Every Sunday at both worship services, when the congregation comes to the altar to receive the bread and wine during Holy Communion, the priest administers the bread and the chalice bearers administers the cup. Along with the priest, the chalice bearers enables worshippers to partake of the Real Presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  • Acolytes

Starting around age 10, the young people of Leeds are invited and encouraged to serve as acolytes in our Sunday worship services. Acolytes assist the clergy and other worship assistants in the leadership of the service in a variety of ways.

  • Adult Choir

The Leeds Church Adult Choir leads the congregational singing each week at the 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist, as well as at other special and seasonal services. During the offertory, they occasionally sing a special anthem. In addition to parishioners, the Adult Choir is composed of student singers from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester. The Adult Choir is directed by Fred Clyne, our organist.

  • Intercessors

Every Sunday at both worship services, a member of the congregation serves as the intercessor. The intercessor’s role is to lead the prayers of the people. In this way, he or she offers prayers to God on behalf of the congregation.

  • Greeters

The ministry of a greeter is hospitality. He or she greets worshippers as they arrive, provides them with a service bulletin, and helps them find a seat if needed. They also direct newcomers and visitors to the nursery and Sunday School. Finally, during the service, they collect the monetary gifts and the bread/wine, which the congregation offers in thanks for God’s many blessings.

  • Lectors

Lectors read the Word of God in our worship services. Sometimes they lead the congregation in reciting the appointed psalm. They are people who are comfortable with public speaking.

  • Episcopal Church Women

The Leeds Episcopal Church Women (ECW) raises funds throughout the year to support two food banks, Blue Ridge Opportunities in Warren County, scholarships to the Episcopal Shrine Mont Camp, local fire departments, free clinics, and the local homeless shelter.

Through our budget, we give out around $14,000 a year to various charities. In addition to this congregational expenditure, the Leeds Episcopal Church Women (ECW) raises funds throughout the year to support two food banks, Blue Ridge Opportunities in Warren County, scholarships to the Episcopal Shrine Mont Camp, local fire departments, free clinics, and the local homeless shelter.
