A place of worship for neighbors of Fauquier since 1769.

Leeds Parish’s roots trace back to 1769 when we were established in Fauquier by the Virginia House of Burgesses.

Since then, we have continuously existed, guided by our rich heritage. Our name was inspired by Leeds Castle in England, the birthplace of Lord Fairfax, whose colonial estates encompassed much of our parish. In December of 1769, our establishment was formally ratified, and worship services commenced immediately.

The Reverend Angela Lerena, Rector

Angela serves as the Rector of The Episcopal Church in Leeds Parish, nestled in Markham, VA, since November 2023. Before her current role, she served as Associate Rector of St. Michael’s in Colorado Springs, CO.

Ordained in 2019, Angela graduated from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA. Her journey in ministry has included service at the Diocesan level in the Diocese of San Joaquin and at Grace Episcopal Church in Nampa, ID.

“His faithfulness endures from age to age.”

Throughout our history, we have faced challenges, such as the devastating fire in 1873 that destroyed all of our church's woodwork. However, through resilience and determination, we restored our beloved building to its present form, a testament to our enduring faith and commitment to our community.

Let's extend our compassion beyond borders and right here in our community by partnering with others, supporting education initiatives, and addressing local needs, fostering hope and transformation together.

  • At Leeds, on Sundays, for our 8 am contemplative Eucharist, we use traditional language and do not have music.  Silence and meditation are important aspects of this service.

  • For our 10:30 am festive Eucharist, we use contemporary language, and led by our choir, we joyfully praise God!  This service is great for families.  Children are invited and encouraged to participate actively in the service, and during Holy Communion, the priest invites them to gather around the table.

  • During the summer we continue to offer one worship service at 9:30 am each Sunday through Labor Day.  The first Sunday of the month is Rite I (traditional language) without music. The remaining Sundays are Rite II (contemporary language) and include the choir.
